Our History

Egan Sign’s story began on Nantucket, Massachusetts, where our founder, Bob Egan, learned the craft of sign-making in his father’s millwork shop. During college breaks, he designed and installed traditional wooden quarterboard signs, precision-carved pieces once used to identify whaling ships. That early experience instilled a deep respect for craftsmanship, accountability, and client relationships, principles that continue to define our approach today.

In the late 1980s, Bob founded the Nantucket Quarterboard Sign Company, a mail-order business rooted in the same standards of quality and attention to detail. As demand grew, he expanded into commercial signage, applying a disciplined, hands- on approach to every project. From the beginning, Egan was built on organization, clear communication, and reliable execution.

Egan Sign was formally incorporated in 1995, marking a pivotal step in the company’s evolution. That same year, we introduced Sign Manager, our proprietary project management software designed to bring structure, visibility, and consistency to signage programs. At a time when most of the industry relied on manual processes, this investment established the operational foundation that continues to support our clients today. As national programs became more complex, we expanded our capabilities and infrastructure to meet growing demand.

In the years that followed, Egan continued to invest in technology, project management, and scalable processes to better serve multi-location brands. Sign Manager evolved into a cloud-based platform that provides real-time visibility and control across every project. Our team grew alongside our clients, strengthening our ability to manage complex rollouts with precision and consistency.

Today, Egan Sign is a national signage partner built on decades of experience, continuous improvement, and a commitment to doing things the right way. Our history is reflected in the systems we have built, the relationships we have earned, and the disciplined execution we bring to every program.
